How My Journey Began
Hello there, I'm Nadia Taylor!
I am a wife and mum of 4, with personal experience of having a cesarean birth with my 1st, a VBAC (vaginal birth) with my 2nd and VBB (vaginal birth-breech position) with my 3rd in hospital and 4th child at home unassisted. I am originally from Tacoma, WA, USA and met my Aussie husband in YWAM and moved to Australia in 2012. I am a passionate Christian, who believes that God created our bodies for birth with zero to minimal interventions. He is a miracle working God and childbirth can grow us even closer to Him and grow our faith and trust in Him. I believe our motherly intuition is also the Holy Spirit for those that have a personal relationship with Him. I don’t think any birth atmosphere should have other peoples fear, including doctors, midwives or doulas, so I do not bring fear into the birth space because Jesus told us not to have a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. When we are afraid, we need to lean into Him, and trust in Him.
After my youngest was born, I realised I would have loved to have hired someone to capture the priceless moments of my unique labours and births. I took a birth photography course, so that my clients could look back on and remember what their body accomplished and the beautiful moments when they met their children for the first time. Since my birth photography journey started, I am now proud to say I am an award winning birth photographer!
Why I became a doula, and why I now choose to be a birth keeper?
I became a doula when I was only 19 years old, through DONA International in California. My vision was to eventually become a midwife as a missionary in developing countries, but over my journey – initially mainly attending hospital births, then having three children of my own and experiencing the hardship and belittling abuse of power and authority in the maternity medical system – started questioning if I would want to be trained and taught by people who don’t respect women, or their bodies, who don’t trust the birth process, and carry a lot of their own personal fears to birth.
In 2020 after my youngest was born, a shift in my career changed and I couldn’t attend hospital births anymore due to the restrictions and lockdowns, when we were living in Sydney at the time. I was blessed to start attending more and more homebirths and freebirths out of it though, and I Knew this was the work I wanted to do with women!
I have grown a lot since I began my doula journey 14 years ago, and now my passion lies in reminding women that they actually already know how to give birth, it’s instinctual, and that mothers know what is best for them and their babies. That birth should be hands off, undisturbed, and how God originally designed birth to be- physiological, transformative, and even healing. I help women tune into their intuition and instincts, face their fears, and be led my faith. And with personal experience of having my family overseas and and no local family nearby, I am the very example of why I think every woman should have postpartum support & care after giving birth especially if you've had a cesarean.
My hobbies outside of my birthwork include…
sitting down in the sunshine with a coffee, going for trail walks in nature, playing board games, riding bikes, growing deeper in my relationship with Jesus, and spending quality time with family and friends.
